Ladies and Gentlemen, week 9 will go down as the week of nailbiters. This week, the average margin of victory was a mere 8 points, with three games being decided by 5 points or less.
In one of the closest games of the week, George Crush confidently walked onto the gridiron without a Tight End. Despite his reluctance to spend a player move to fill the typically lowest scoring roster slot, it was the heavy lifting of the running backs which allowed him to improve to 6-3 over the Mason’s Maulers. With a little creativity, the Maulers certainly would have dealt the Crush a solid loss had they filled their roster as well. Good game Chris!
Perhaps the biggest upset of the week, the Better Masons made the statement “Not only will we beat you, we will do it with most of our firepower sitting on the bench”. The Masons squeaked out the victory with 35 points on the bench and 2 empty slots in their roster. What a statement Alexandra!
The Silver Bullets got back to their winning ways with the help of the struggling Tony Romo putting in a solid performance. The effort of the Mayhem’s running backs was not enough to overcome the loss of Hines Ward. Tough luck for the Mayhem. Way to hang on Bullets!
Despite 4 players scoring in double digits, the Nittany Mountaineers suffered defeat at the hands of the Powder Puffs. Luck was certainly not on the side of the Mountaineers (not to mention the Mountaineers of the Big East as well), as 3 players scoring goose eggs proved to be an insurmountable obstacle. OR, MAYBE, the Powder Puffs just played their cards well. Good game Lori (Lori T, that is)!
One of the first teams to clinch a spot in the post-season, Blitzburgh quelched a solid performance by The Riskers by racking up the highest score of the week (and the only one in triple digits). Blitzburgh must have magical insight into the world of Fantasy Football, proven by selecting a player projected to score 0 and still managing to score points (evidence: Miles Austin). Blitzburgh: WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!!!
The other team to clinch a play-off spot, Ur Momma dealt the Fury the biggest blowout of the week. Only living up to part of the smack talk, the Fury held normally high scoring Ur Momma to a modest score, but was unable to capitalize by leaving some heavy scores on the bench. Good game Angela. We almost had ya!

Week 7 Challenge--The Results
Congratulations to the Nittany Mountaineers, whose DEF scored the most points in Week 7 at 27.32 points. That earns Coaches L and J Risk one player move!
Also winning 1 player move each are Ur Momma and Powder Puffs, whose defenses both recorded 4 sacks in their games this weekend. Way to go defenses!

Weekly Recap--Week 7
This week was a very wild week. We had 2 very high scores and we had 7 teams score less then 66 points. We'll just say it was a defensive struggle ( or an offensive display).
One of this weeks matchups featured 2 teams with good records, but you wouldn't know it by the final score Blitzburgh 58.97 to Fairmont Fury 50.82. Fairmont Fury would have won, if they would have played Mark Sanchez (who scored 19 pts.) instead of Matt Cassel who scored a -2.10 pts.
Another matchup featured a team that actually scored some points Silver Bullets. Silver Bullets had a big win 104.23 to 43.53 for Powder Puffs. Silver Bullets looks like a team who will be a competing for the title this year. Powder Puffs did have 5 players on a bye this week, at least she has an excuse for her low score.
The biggest defensive battle was the closest final score Mason's Maulers 48.21 to Mt. Morris Mayhem 46.59. Mt. Morris Mayhem had to play Colt McCoy (who scored -1.48 pts.) because M. Vick was on a bye. It also didn't help Ryan Torain scored - .33 pts. This win puts Mason's Maulers one game back from a playoff spot.
Another close match-up was between the Mt. Morris Mauraders 83.41 to the Nittany Mountaineers 77.91. The Nittany Mountaineers would have won if they played Antonio Gates who scored 9.60 pts. This is a tough loss for the Nittany Mountaineers who fall to 1-6. The Mt. Morris Mauraders are now the hottest team in the league with winning their 4th straight game.
The team with most points scored in the league George Crush won 125.22 over Better Masons 62.63. George Crush goes to 4-3 with the win. I still can't believe this team is only 4-3 with averaging over 100 points per week.
Ur Momma scored 142.63 points (the most points scored this season) and defeated The Riskers who scored 65.38. Ur Momma left DeMarco Murray a running back on the bench who broke the Cowboys all-time rushing record with 253 yards. By the way DeMarco Murray scored 24.87 pts. in our league. Ur Momma is now 6-1 and the #1 seed if the playoffs started today.

Since defenses were studly in week 6, the Week 7 challenge will involve them! The team with the most points on DEF will win 1 player move. And the team that has the most sacks in their game will also win one player move. Good luck!

Tuesday Morning Quarterback--Week 6
The league is starting to get some definition this week, with the top 4 teams winning and the bottom 4 teams losing. Two games were decided by 1.51 points. No one is undefeated this year, but there is going to be plenty of competition to get into the playoffs! Without further ado, this week's recap!
In the first of two very close games, Ur Momma edged out George Crush by 1.51 points to take her record to 5-1. Neither team had players scoring surprising numbers....just fairly solid play in most of the positions. It looks like the Detroit DEF is what let down the Crush, who even their record at 3-3. Good Job Angela!
In the second game decided by only 1.51 points, Fairmont Fury pulled ahead of the Nittany Mountaineers on Monday night with the arm of Mark Sanchez. Before Monday night NM had the lead, but abysmal play by the New Orleans DEF really cost them the game, dropping them to 1-5 overall. The Fury, in contrast, go to 4-2 on the season thanks to Sanchez and studly play by the Green Bay DEF. Good Job Bob!
The Battle of the Spouses this week featured the Mt. Morris teams. Like the Nittany Mountaineers, the beaten down Mayhem were winning. Monday Night Football came and the Mauraders' Santonio Holmes caught at TD pass, sealing the Mayhem's fate. The Mayhem also left Anquan Boldin on the bench. If he had been played the Mauraders would have still won, but it would have been by less than a point. TMQ recommends that the Mayhem ditch Tim Hightower, who has been nothing but a dud since being signed. Good Job Patrick! (That gives the Mauraders a 3-7 record against his wife).
In the biggest blowout of the week, the Powder Puffs ran over the Better Masons, winning by over 60 points. The Puffs got good play from their defense and star K Robbie Gould. For the second week in a row, Coach A. Mason had a player cost her points. This week TWO players scored in negative points, and the Better Masons left their highest scoring player, Rashard Mendenhall, on the bench! Let's hope that was a rookie mistake. Good Job Lori!
TheRiskers beat Silver Bullets soundly this week. No one had a chance this week against TheRiskers, who had the highest points thanks to three star players this week. QB Rodgers, WR Hester, and NYJ DEF combined scored almost 70% of TheRiskers' points! That puts TheRiskers in contention for the Triple C trophy with a 4-2 record. Silver Bullets evens out their record at 3-3. Good Job John!
In the final match-up of the week, top seeded Blitzburgh easily cruised past rookie Mason's Maulers. Blitzburgh's stud DEF and star TE helped their cause this week. They were also helped by the fact that the Maulers played a QB on a BYE with an available QB on the bench! Matt Ryan's 15.55 wasted points wouldn't have given the Maulers a win, but would have made the score respectable. The Maulers drop to 1-5 while Blitzburgh improves to 5-1. Good Job Buddy!

Tuesday Morning Quarterback--Week 5 Recap
As BYE weeks began around the league, many coaches were scrambling to fill roster spots. Three games were close, three were blowouts. And the interim commissioner's team lost AGAIN. But I digress...
As just mentioned, in the first match-up of the week the Powder Puffs laid a beat down on the Mt. Morris Mayhem, easily winning by more than doubling the Mayhem's points total. The Puffs had 4 positions in double figures, including two of this week's stars and one stud. Even with poor performances in the WR spot, the Puffs's RBs picked up the slack.The Mayhem suffered from many of her players being on a BYE. Good job Lori!
In the closest match-up of the day, Fairmont Fury squeezed by TheRiskers 77.04 to 75.85. The Fury had five players in double figures and was also able to overcome poor performances by both WRs and the TE. Aaron Rodgers' star week just wasn't quite enough for TheRiskers, who had 5 players earn under 5 points each. Good job Bob!
George Crush easily crushed the now 1-4 Nittany Mountaineers, winning by 36.39 points. And the Crush did it with no stars or studs on their squad. Solid play at each position allowed George Crush to win. The Nittany Mountaineers didn't have much of a chance, playing one player who was on a BYE and only had 2 players in double digits (one of them was the kicker). Good job Chris!

Ur Momma probably would have stayed undefeated in the league if she hadn't played the Baltimore DEF, who was on a BYE in week 5. The Mauraders had solid play in the QB, WR, and DEF positions, including star WR of the week, Dwayne Bowe. Now at 3-2, the Mauraders are starting to inch their way up toward defending their championship. Good job Patrick!

The Bullets were able to make up for the worst performance of the season by QB Kevin Kolb by having 5 players in double digits and fairly solid play at every position. Blitzburgh only had 2 players in double digits and probably would have won if they hadn't wasted Marshawn Lynch's 11.73 points on the bench. Good job Brad!
The final match-up of the week pitted husband against wife. The Better Masons were winning going into Monday night, but Mason's Maulers came out with the 7.43 victory. The Maulers were able to win despite poor performances from his WRs mainly on the legs of stud Jahvid Best. For the Better Masons, even with Sebastian Janikowski's amazing performance and 20.00 points, negative points from your QB and only 0.44 points from your DEF do not make a winning combination. This now puts the husband/wife competition at 1-1. Good job Brian!

Tuesday Morning Quarterback--Week 1 Recap
Welcome to another exciting season of Caterina's Coaches Fantasy Football! This is your Tuesday Morning Quarterback, Jennifer (head coach of Mt. Morris Mayhem and interim commissioner) with a recap of the first week of competition.
The Powder Puffs start off the season with a 9.09 win over George Crush. The Crush relied heavily on their WRs, but even with star Wes Welker and stud Calvin Johnson, Coach George could not overcome Powder Puffs' Ryan Fitzpatrick (a surprise stud this week) and four other players in double figures. Great coaching this week Lori!
The Nittany Mountaineers showed rookie Mason's Maulers who was boss this week with a 22.41 point win over the lowest scoring team of the week. Even with a negative performance from QB Ben Roethlisburger and a big ZERO from WR Austin Collie, Coaches L and J Risk were able to easily overcome the Maulers, who had only 2 players in double digits and no players scoring more than 12.18 points. It didn't help the rookie team that their keeper pick, the Pittsburgh DEF, earned them a whopping 1.40 points (and if anyone saw that game, they know why). Looks like there will be some rookie growing pains in the first few weeks. Great job Jim and Lori!
The Mt. Morris Mayhem had a disappointing loss to Blitzburgh this week. After trailing in the match up all weekend, Blitzburgh came racing back to win on the arm of Tom Brady, who had 511 yards and 4 TDs to his credit in week 1. Coach J. Tenney had to place her hopes in Knowshon Moreno to come back and beat Blitzburgh, but it wasn't meant to be. Looks like it's back to the cellar for the commish, a place she's been for a while now. Great job Buddy!
In another low scoring match, the Mt. Morris Mauraders came out with a 16.54 point victory over Fairmont Fury, largly with the help of Cedric Benson and Rob Gronkowski. Coach P. Tenney had 4 players in double digits, but also had some poor performances from traditionally decent players. Coach B. Taylor must be FURY-ous at his team because without the Green Bay defense (which accounted for over 40% of the team's total), it wouldn't have even been close. Good coaching job Patrick!
In the first spousal match up of the season, Coach A. Crawford's defense was the difference in her 11.01 win over the Silver Bullets. Ur Momma's Baltimore DEF scored 40.48 points to overcome 6 Bullets' players in double digits and strong performances from the Bullets' Matt Forte and the New England DEF. Let's hope the wives continue to triumph as the season progresses! Great job Angela!
In the closest game of the week, TheRiskers squeezed by rookie Better Masons with a 7.33 victory. Coach J. Risk has his QB and DEF to thank for the win. These two positions accounted for 60% of TheRiskers total team points. Coach A. Mason had a more evenly matched team, but got poor performance from her QB. Even with K Sebastian Janikowski's 63 yarder at the end of the last game of the week, the Better Masons just couldn't overcome TheRiskers' more seasoned coach. Great job John!

2011-2012 League Awards
Before things get rolling on Thursday I wanted to let you all know about this year's league awards. League awards will be voted on by the team owners at the end of the season. It's important to keep the awards in mind throughout the season as many of them depend on how well you pay attention during the course of the year. Here are the categories:
1) Coach of the Year--awarded to the coach that the league feels did the best job with their team. This is not necessarily the Triple C champion.
2) League MVP--Offensive player or defense who performed the best overall
3) Offensive Player of the Year--cannot also be League MVP
4) Defense of the Year--cannot also be League MVP
5) Best Free Agent/Waiver Pick-up
6) Best Draft
7) Rookie of the Year--either Mason's Maulers or The Better Masons
8) Most Improved Team
9) Smack Talk--best trash talker
10) Bonehead Award--awarded to the coach who makes the dumbest move during the season
11) Hall of Fame--this award is voted on every 3 years and cannot include a rookie team

Welcome back coaches for another exciting season of Caterina's Coaches fantasy football! There are a few important things you need to know before the season gets started:
1) Draft time is set for TUESDAY, AUGUST 30 at 6:30. When I scheduled the draft it was the only time available that wasn't 11:30 at night. And I don't know about you all, but this gal is an early-to-bed kinda gal. So I am sorry that we couldn't stick with a Sunday night draft as originally planned, but this is the best I could do.
2) Fairmont Fury and Blitzburg still have not declared keepers. You have until August 26th to declare your keeper, or the commissioner will choose for you. Please either respond to this post or send me something over the league yahoo website and let me know.
I am looking forward to a great season. We will bring back league voting on MVP, best free agent/waiver pick up, etc at the end of the season, so pay attention throughout the season. Good luck to everyone and I will "see" you all on the 30th.

Survey Monkey Results

1) Most favored a LIVE, ONLINE draft, so the commish will procede as last year with this type of draft in August.
2) Sunday appears to be the best day to draft, with 7 total votes for some time on Sunday. We will look at some time after 5:00 PM on a Sunday in late August.
3) Everyone has checked the blog before, so nice to see!
4) Weekly recaps were desired by a majority of the owners, so 2011 will see the return of recaps.
5) Everyone said they would be happy to write a recap, and I will hold you to it this year! It's too hard for me to do it every week.

Triple C Champion
Congratulations to Coach Patrick Tenney and the Mt. Morris Mauraders for their 13.44 point victory over George Crush to win the Triple C crown! This is Coach Tenney's second championship since joining the league 2 seasons ago. It looks like this newcomer will give the league veterans a run for their money!

Excellent draft owners! The draft went very smoothly and lasted 45 minutes. I hope everyone is happy with the team they drafted. Our competition kicks off Thursday, September 9th when the NFL opens its season featuring the Vikings vs. the Saints. The League Has Spoken...
...and keepers it is! After a 6-1 majority vote, the league will again pick keepers for the year.
Just to remind you what the league decided in 2008--you may not declare the same keeper two seasons in a row. So whoever you kept last year CANNOT be your keeper choice this year. I will try and post the keepers from last year, with the help of the ex-commish, below. Be sure to check back with this post to make sure your keeper from last year is listed so the league knows who is up for grabs. Just to remind you what the league decided in 2008--you may not declare the same keeper two seasons in a row. So whoever you kept last year CANNOT be your keeper choice this year. I will try and post the keepers from last year, with the help of the ex-commish, below. Be sure to check back with this post to make sure your keeper from last year is listed so the league knows who is up for grabs. If your keeper from last year is not listed, please drop me an e-mail or comment on this post. Keeper choices may be changed until Thursday, August 26th at 3:00 PM. Thanks!

To Keep or Not To Keep? That is the Question.
There has been some discussion in recent weeks among some of the team owners about whether or not we decided to have a keeper league in 2010. No consensus was made, so I will put it up for a vote.
Please comment to this post, letting me know if you want to do a keeper league this year or not. I will go on a majority ruling based on your comments.
If we decide to do a keeper league, I will post the rules for keepers as well as provide all team owners with their 2009 team roster.
Please post your comment about keepers to this blog by MONDAY, August 23rd.
I will review the comments and post here as well as e-mail the league with the decision.
If a keeper league is decided for 2010, I will provide each team with their 2009 roster by Wednesday, August 25th. I will ask that you make your keeper pick by Thursday, August 26th so I can set up the draft prior to going into the technology abyss that is my in-laws house.
