Live Draft Rules

I would like to welcome everyone to the 2008 Fantasy Football Season. Below are the rules for the 2008 live draft. I would like to wish everyone good luck and I hope you enjoy the season.

Date: Sunday, August 24, 2008
Time: Lunch 12:00 pm
Welcome 1:00 pm
Special Award presentation 1:05 PM
Draft: 1:10 PM

What to expect of your commissioner:

As Commissioner, I will provide the following items for the live draft.

1. A comfortable meeting place for the draft.
2. A list of players broken down by position for each team to track players who have been taken and players that are still available.
3. Food and drinks.
4. The actual trophies that will be awarded at the end of the season.
5. An accurate account of the draft as it occurs.
6. My best at running a smooth and efficient draft.

What is expected of each team:

As Commissioner, I expect the following of each team.

1. Each team must sign up prior to the actual draft.
2. Arrive on time. The draft will start promptly at 1:00 PM. Teams that are late will lose their draft position in each round that they miss. Missed draft picks will be made up at the end of the draft.
3. Teams not attending the live draft must make arrangements for conducting their team’s draft prior to the draft. This can be in the form of a prioritized list or participating in the live draft through Yahoo! Messenger. Participating in the live draft through Yahoo! Messenger, will require the team to be online five minutes prior to the draft and remain online throughout the draft.
4. Each team is expected to do their own research. Teams may bring any and all research materials needed to the draft.
5. Keep track of players that are taken and players that are available, so that the draft will run as smoothly as possible.
6. Teams that have not already paid the $3 entry/trophy fee will be required to pay on the day of the draft.

Additional rules:

1. The draft will last 14 rounds. During each of the first seven rounds, teams will have 1 minute to make their pick. For rounds eight through fourteen, teams will have 2 minutes to make their pick. Teams will be alerted at 30 seconds, 15 seconds and 5 seconds. This will help keep the length of the draft to a reasonable amount of time (roughly 4 hours). A fifteen minute break will be provided at two hours, although teams are free to get up and move about as needed during the draft.
2. Teams exceeding their allotted draft time will lose their draft position for that round and will complete their draft pick for that round at the end of the draft.
3. There are twelve teams drafting fourteen players each. This means that 168 players will be taken in the draft. For teams that are providing a prioritized list of players prior to the draft, it is recommended that the list contain at least 250 players.
4. Each player drafted will be announced twice for the purposes of confirmation and for other teams to mark off the list of available players. Each team is expected to maintain their own lists.
5. Teams MAY NOT trade their draft picks/positions. This may be an option in the future after the league has conducted a few live drafts and worked out all the “bugs”. Teams may begin trading immediately following the draft and are welcome to remain after the draft to conduct trade talks.Team owners may talk amongst themselves during the draft, but should remember it is their responsibility to maintain their own list of available players. Teams failing to keep an accurate account could exceed their allotted draft time (see #2 above).

Welcome

As commissioner, I would like to begin by thanking everyone for their support of this league. I think last year was the best year this league has had and I am looking forward to many more years of hosting this league.

The 2008 season of Caterina’s coaches brings only a few minor changes, and as is tradition, any changes in the league will continue to take place only with the approval of the team owners/coaches. These changes have always been minor and in the spirit of increased friendly competition. In order for this league to be the best, it is important for all league owners to participate in both the post season survey and in voting for the annual league awards. I encourage everyone to share their thoughts in order that the league may continue to improve and provide fun for everyone who participates.

Please take time to make a few posts on the league discussion/trash talk board. This will be the third consecutive year for the current teams to be in the league. I would like to think that we have all gotten to know each other, but this may not be the case. I feel the discussion board is the best way to get to know each other while adding to the fun and competitiveness of the league. I appreciate the teams that did a weekley recap and I hope that will continue this season. As always, all trash talk is viewed strictly in fun, for fun.

The league will continue its live draft in Morgantown, WV on the last Saturday in August. The draft order for 2008 can be found in the box to the left. Membership is currently closed to new teams. If any team leaves the league, I will consider adding a team to replace the departing team. Any new team will draft in order of registration following the first pick (not the "keeper" pick) of the established teams. This means that any new team will actually be a round behind everyone and will have an extra pick at the end of the draft to make up for the "keeper". More information will follow closer to the actual draft day.

The league will continue the $3 registration fee to help pay for the trophy. Last year's trophy has been well received from the feedback I have heard. The trophy will be the same for this year.
Changes for 2008 include scoring changes for a defensive shutout and missed extra points and allowing the team of an injured player the first opportunity to pick up that player's backup - all voted by a majority concensus of the team owners. Teams may go to the settings page of this website to see the scoring changes for 2008. If you have questions regarding these changes or would like to know the results of last year’s post season survey, please feel free to contact the commissioner and discuss.

This website has been designed with the intent to keep all teams informed of league activities and changes through the year. Any comments on the website or any information that teams would like to see posted on this website may be directed to the commissioner through e-mail.
Good luck to everyone this season in their quest for the coveted Triple C Bowl Championship. May the best team win.
