Live Draft Rules

I would like to welcome everyone to the 2008 Fantasy Football Season. Below are the rules for the 2008 live draft. I would like to wish everyone good luck and I hope you enjoy the season.

Date: Sunday, August 24, 2008
Time: Lunch 12:00 pm
Welcome 1:00 pm
Special Award presentation 1:05 PM
Draft: 1:10 PM

What to expect of your commissioner:

As Commissioner, I will provide the following items for the live draft.

1. A comfortable meeting place for the draft.
2. A list of players broken down by position for each team to track players who have been taken and players that are still available.
3. Food and drinks.
4. The actual trophies that will be awarded at the end of the season.
5. An accurate account of the draft as it occurs.
6. My best at running a smooth and efficient draft.

What is expected of each team:

As Commissioner, I expect the following of each team.

1. Each team must sign up prior to the actual draft.
2. Arrive on time. The draft will start promptly at 1:00 PM. Teams that are late will lose their draft position in each round that they miss. Missed draft picks will be made up at the end of the draft.
3. Teams not attending the live draft must make arrangements for conducting their team’s draft prior to the draft. This can be in the form of a prioritized list or participating in the live draft through Yahoo! Messenger. Participating in the live draft through Yahoo! Messenger, will require the team to be online five minutes prior to the draft and remain online throughout the draft.
4. Each team is expected to do their own research. Teams may bring any and all research materials needed to the draft.
5. Keep track of players that are taken and players that are available, so that the draft will run as smoothly as possible.
6. Teams that have not already paid the $3 entry/trophy fee will be required to pay on the day of the draft.

Additional rules:

1. The draft will last 14 rounds. During each of the first seven rounds, teams will have 1 minute to make their pick. For rounds eight through fourteen, teams will have 2 minutes to make their pick. Teams will be alerted at 30 seconds, 15 seconds and 5 seconds. This will help keep the length of the draft to a reasonable amount of time (roughly 4 hours). A fifteen minute break will be provided at two hours, although teams are free to get up and move about as needed during the draft.
2. Teams exceeding their allotted draft time will lose their draft position for that round and will complete their draft pick for that round at the end of the draft.
3. There are twelve teams drafting fourteen players each. This means that 168 players will be taken in the draft. For teams that are providing a prioritized list of players prior to the draft, it is recommended that the list contain at least 250 players.
4. Each player drafted will be announced twice for the purposes of confirmation and for other teams to mark off the list of available players. Each team is expected to maintain their own lists.
5. Teams MAY NOT trade their draft picks/positions. This may be an option in the future after the league has conducted a few live drafts and worked out all the “bugs”. Teams may begin trading immediately following the draft and are welcome to remain after the draft to conduct trade talks.Team owners may talk amongst themselves during the draft, but should remember it is their responsibility to maintain their own list of available players. Teams failing to keep an accurate account could exceed their allotted draft time (see #2 above).
